[Elliott Wilson] The ๐Ÿof #HipHopjournalism-hip-hop media journalism's most prominent figure.

Elliott Wilson is a prominent figure in the field of hip-hop journalism, known for his deep involvement in the culture since the 1990s. Born on January 14, 1971, in Queens, New York, he has a diverse heritage with an African American father and an Ecuadorian-Greek mother. Wilson's academic journey includes an associate degree in Liberal Arts from LaGuardia Community College, and he began his writing career with Beat-Down Newspaper in 1992.
Wilson's professional trajectory is marked by significant contributions to the hip-hop and rap music scene. He co-authored two notable books: "Book of Rap Lists" and "Big Book of Racism!", both in collaboration with Sacha Jenkins and developed in the spirit of the magazine Ego trip. His writing prowess extends to various renowned publications, including GQ, VIBE, and Rolling Stone. In 1996, Wilson's career took a notable turn when he joined The Source magazine as music editor, and by 1999, he had become the editor-in-chief of XXL Magazine.

His tenure at XXL was notable for his goal of surpassing The Source in terms of performance. He is remembered for his editorials under the pseudonym "YN", representing his background and dedication to hip-hop culture. However, his time at XXL ended controversially in 2008, which led to the inception of RapRadar.com in 2009. This platform quickly gained momentum, recognition and was nominated for best hip-hop website at the BET Hip Hop Awards for three consecutive years.

Wilson's influence extends beyond print, as he ventured into television production and online media. He co-executive produced several shows for VH1 and became the editor-in-chief of RESPECT. magazine in 2010. His current endeavors include serving as the Editorial Director of Culture & Content at TIDAL and hosting the Rap Radar Podcast alongside Brian "B.Dot" Miller.

Throughout his career, Wilson has maintained a significant presence in the hip-hop community, interviewing and profiling many iconic artists. His commitment to the culture and his journalistic integrity have made him a respected and influential figure in hip-hop media journalism.
"Sometimes to go forward, you need to go backwards. Here is me and Elliott Wilson  late 90’s style. I think this when Elliott was still overseeing The Source Magazine and hadn’t started as EIC at XXL Magazine yet. I definitely have a record bag over my shoulder.
And look at us now" + the one-and-only @richcacomplex. UPROXX Studios welcomes the ๐Ÿof #HipHopjournalism.
